Billions made and lost in the Stock Market

I’ve gained and lost several billion dollars so far this week on the stock market. I started off with about $2,000 or so dollars and 2000 shares in August of 2005, was gifted roughly $200,000 or so, and steadily climbed to about a $6 billion dollars net worth before this week started. This steady climb occurred even after black Friday when two segments of the market basically collapsed completely (luckily, I had little in one market, and could absorb the loss caused by the other market’s collapse). Start of this week? Several of my stocks collapsed, dropping me down to a total net worth of roughly $2.5 billion dollars. Only today have I been able to make up some ground, driving my net worth up to roughly $5 billion, before collapsing back down to $4.26 billion when another of my stocks collapsed under the weight of being overvalued. Only today that stock climbed from $147,839.70 a share to $225,193.14 a share before collapsing to $68.41 a share. Currently it sits at $76.87. A loss of staggering proportions. Fortunately, I still have $800,852,485.83 in 255 stocks, a further $2.9 billion in cash and about $566.7 million in ideas.

Ideas? Well, I guess I’ll have to move past pretending that I’m talking about the real stock market. No, I’ve been referring to BlogShares, a fake market for trading shares in blogs. As the website describes itself: “BlogShares is a fantasy stock market where weblogs are the companies. Players invest fictional dollars on shares in blogs. Blogs are valued by their incoming links and add value to other blogs by linking to them. Prices can go up or down based on trading and the underlying value of the blog.” Blogshares can be played either free (limited transactions per day) or as a paying customer (roughly $15 dollars per year, unlimited transactions – well there’s a 20 minute buffer between purchases in a blog (only a certain % can be bought at a time without an artefact – don’t ask) and a six hour buffer between sale of shares in a blog and purchase of shares in that blog (again, except by an artefact). I highly recommend checking it out, especially if you have a blog of your own (or two or four) as your blog might already be in the game, and if you claim your blog you’ll receive $500 per blog and 1000 shares per blog you own. WARNING: A very additive game.
